Why Use Upright?

We’ve been there

We understand your needs, and we understand your position because we’ve been there!

Before starting the company in January 2021 (in the middle of Covid by the way (read backstory), Mike had already been ‘helping out’ smaller local churches for over 8 years. We understand the limitations of your equipment, your budget, and your staff and work with you to develop affordable, cost-effective solutions to your sound, light & video needs.

Because there is a Need

Though it might be a tiny, insignificant (unprofitable to larger contractors) ‘niche market’ that we can meet the needs of, the unique capabilities of Upright Audio Solutions can be a blessing to you, as your valued business can be a blessing to us, and allow us both to continue ‘doing what we do’, just better.

Value:

  • Small company, personal service, but with the same industry contacts and resources as the ‘big guys’.

  • Low overhead, & low operating expenses translate to needed savings for you.

  • We work cost-plus, not based on industry-standard rates.

  • Always willing to ‘increment’ improvements over time to meet budget constraints, not just ‘sell’ a ‘whole new system’

Experience:

Prior to conceptualizing Upright, Mike had 20+ years of experience as a lead sound tech, working multiple services on multiple systems, and multiple venues at Calvary Christian Church in Lynnfield MA.

  • During that tenure, the church grew from 150 attendees in a 200-seat sanctuary with a 16-channel Peavey board to over 2000 attendees in a new (ultimately) 750 seat sanctuary with (lastly) a 72-channel Yamaha CL-series digital console running a full left-center-right system with subwoofers, delay ring, and under-balcony speakers on a Dante network. Mike was there for several iterations of the sound system through that period, and had design input to all of them.

  • Since about 2001, Mike also handled the audio for the Productions Department. Full scale Christmas and Easter musical productions required playback of musical tracks, up to 18 wireless microphones, and miking the ‘roaming’ choir, whose size & location varied from scene to scene.

  • Since 2004, Mike also took on the task of lighting designer & operator for the productions. As Technical Director, coordinating sound, lighting, prop/scenery & talent cues- most times to a split second! Once again, growing from a 16-fixture manually operated incandescent rig to (eventually) programming a 2-unverse ETC Ion console running 45 fixed LED fixtures (most color mixing), 10 moving yoke light fixtures, and full control of the architectural lighting. (no, that growth did not happen overnight!) Attended (& eventually hosted) Taipale Media Systems’ well-known Church Soundcheck Bootcamp. Training certificates received from Yamaha Commercial Audio for Digital Systems Clinic on QL/CL series, ETC Intermediate Programming class on EOS series consoles.
